Ho expressed himself, ns satisfied it tho rate of progress being made with tho construction of the North, Island Main Trunk line. Mr HOGG expressed surprise- that moro members of tho Opposition had not spoken during the Ucivate. He had hoped to have tho pleasure of replying to eomo vigorous attache on tho Ministry, but apparently tho Opposition wore contented with tho proj)iiboa of tho Government. Mγ STALL,WORTHi' eiid tho country generally was lamenting the loss of tho iinn Francisco mail service. Mr T. E. tf.SED.DON urjzcd the Government to give favourable consideration to tho tenders received tor tue construction or tho Arthur's Pass tunnel on the Midland railway. Ho eulogised the work done by Dr. Bell, the Internment Geologist, ou tho West Coast.
