RESOLUTIONS OfTpPRECIATION.

At ilio mooting of tho Asliburton County Council ye.sterday tho chairman (Mr 0. J. Harper) remarked that btfforo proceedini; with tho ordinary business of tho Council, he would like in briefly refer to the death of the lato Sir John Hull, who had bren a colonial politician in every sense of the word. Ho had boen a most painstaking, hard-working, conscientious man 110 (tho chairman) had sut with the late (Sir John on tho Canterbury ProviwW Council,-and also on tho Rakain KWd Beard, and tho services ho had rendered the public had boon most valuable. He had set a noble example during his lifetime, and now that thu contents of his will were known, it wa«s jten that his wide and munificent gifts for Tarioua charitable purposes were an Mam pie which might well he folloflred by others. Ho (the chairman) had boon unable to attend the funeral, but tho county had been represented by Mr John Lambie. Ho would move: —"Thefc this Council places on record its eonso of the grent loss the colony lias diistained in tho death of the late Sir John Hall, K.C.M.G., whose valuable service* during his life and distinguished career as a politician proved so beneficial to the welfare of the colony." ,Mr John Lambie, in seconding tho motion, enid ho could heartily "endorse whnt had beon said with reference to the deceased gentleman. The Into Sir John Hnll had boen a most useful man in mnny ways, and as a politician lio had suffered moro misrepresentation than any other public man, though none had done bettor or more conscientious work. The motion wus put and carried in lilence, the membors standing.

Dr. Bight, at a mooting of the Board of Managers of the Technical Classes Inet-evening referred to the regrettable occurrence that had taken place since their meeting—tho death of Sir John Hall. _ The speaker referred to the high qualities of the docoasod gentleman, end the loss that had been mistained by the colony through his death. Ho meted :—"That tho Board of Managers of tho Chrietohuroh Technical Col'oge forward to tho relatives of tho late Sir John Hall an expression of its •ympathy with, them in their bereavement, and of tho keen senso of loss which tho Board, in common with all who have tho national interests nt heart, feels at the termination of a life conspicuous for the exorcise of a fine public spirit; and, furthermore, that ihe-Doard placo on rocord its high appreciation of tho services which he has rendered as a colonist, an educationist, en administrator, and a statesman." Mr Allison seconded tho motion, and »mphaeised tho loss sustained by tho people of Canterbury by tho death of Sic John Hall. Mr Buohanan said that ho had boon pgrMleged to havo several conversations- with Sir John Hall, and ho could •Muro them that Canterbury and tho wtony had sustained «. eovero loss. The motion was carried in silenco, the members standing.
