LIEDERTAFEL CONCERT. Tho prevailing influenza epidemic, by oa using mauy auiences a.nu also '■■ affecting tho voices of the singing members present last night at tho Liede-r----tufel Jrierrea Abend, prob.Vb'y accounted for tho fnct that the work was by Ino means up to tho usual standi -ml. Dr. .Manning selected •The V il- ': lage Blacksmith" as his solo, but his ; -roico was hircsiy equal to the dcima-nds of tho number. On former occasions ho has been hea;>d to greater advantage in bailad music. Mr Broad'hurst sang Tito Mattel's "Non over" sweetly, but was rather lacking in expression. Mr Schwartz took tho eolo in Roiohardts part song 'The Imago of the Rose," but forced hie voice too much, i with tho result that the success of tihe j w;lo was marred somewhat. Mr Sopor was heard to considerable advantage in "0 Flowor of all the World. , ' which ho sane; taste fully. A littl-e more spirit infused into the number would have been an improvement, but as a whole lit was well sung. For an encore he !c:ave "Starlit Eyes'' excellently. Mr C. D. Morris always sings his .-.olos with much pwoptncre and expression, and I ln-vt nicrht lie tgnve the oJd favourite. "Island of Dreams'' excellently, and for ! n; , . γ-ucck , a pretty littie baHad, "0 Thank Mc Not, , ' which wie also 6ung very well indeed. Mr Millar, who was in excellent voice, scored a decided siiecrrs in Gounod's difficult so-n.g "Vulcan." which was given with considerable power and effect. For a firr-l enooro Ih> gave "The Deep Cold Sen," which he ean.g we.ll, and he was equally ■successful in his second encore number. i ''Kings of the Rrrad." Mr Alfred Bunz ! played a piano soio, Chopin's ''Ra'.lado !in A Flat Major." with much delicacy I aflid expression, and was encored. Of the part songs fchoee deserving special ■mention were "A Vintage Son.g," "The Frog,' , "Sweet and Low," and "Tlie Soldier's Farewell." Dt. Bradphaw conducted, and Dr. Crooko accompanied.
