RESERVE CORPS FORMED
A meeting of the members of the Canterbury ex-Contingonters' Association was held last night, when Major Cosegrove presided. Captain Loach reported that th<? Patriotic Fund Committee had voted tlio Association £20, to be used for tlw objects for which the fund was now applied. With reference to the proposal to form a Reserve Corps, the Cnairman stated that he had written to the Defence Council on the subject, and had received a reply that the regulation* did. not contemplate the formation of a reserve corps outside the volunteer forces, but ex-contingenters. if up to the minimum of thirty, might bo accepted as an exception. Horse hire could not reasonably be allowed, for dismounted work was all that was required, for capitation. It wns resolved to proceed with the formation of the Mounted Reserve Corps, and details in connection therewith were arranged. The following officers were elected: Captain T. 11. Overton (Secon'! N.Z.M.R.); first lieutenant, P. H. Keddell (vSeventh N.Z.M.R.). Two unsucballots were held for tho election of the second lieutenant, and the election was deferred. Captain Loach and Lieutenant K.
