AN AUCKLAND OPINION.
(PRESS ASSOCTATTOV TELKGBAM.) AUCKLAND, Juno 7. In regardi to the New Zealand team for Australia, tho most riotnble Auckland absentees are Goo. Smith and G. Nicholeon.. The Auckland thro ter has been playing right at the top of his form this season, and his mninclusion comes as a oyr surprise to followers of tlie game in this city. Probably the reason for tho dropping of Smith and! Nicholson was that their work didl not come under tho eye of tho selectors in the Inter-Island match. No exception can bo taken to any or the throe-quarfers included', and a m .tor .for congratulation is that three of the four—Fryor, ivutchinson. ana Dive—are young players. Coleman, who is picked as the reserve half-back, played, on the wing against Auckland ■last year, but is regarded as equaty go* _ as half-back, and- oan play in the three-quarter line if necessary. xje will bo available ns a wing should Gillctt become incapacitated. The forwards are ocmsidiorcd as good a lot as ever left the colony, and th*. local opinion is that it will bo ai gocd pack that outplays them.
