LICENSING COMMITTEES.
aRICCARTON. The Riccarton Licencing Committee held its annual meeting in the Rich's rton Road Board office at noon yestordnv. Present: Mr H. W. ""likhop. S.M. (Chairman), P. Steward, A. Boyle. E. C. Calcutt, and U. I. Giffkin. SubInspector Dwyer represented the police An application by Mr Barrett for the transfer of the license of the Belfast Hotel from D. M. Marshall to John Jones, was adjourned. In regard to tho Plough Hotel, Lowor Riccarton, in which tho Committee had allowed tho owners until tho close of the Exhibition period to re-build tbe hotel, Mr Cowlishaw, for the owners, Manning and Company, applied for v further extension of #imo, until _ the next local option poll. He admitted that the house was an old on©, butthought that it was adequate for its purpose. If the house wero not closed as a result of the next licensing poll, the owners would thon be prepared to build a very superior plaoo. Tho Committee deliberated in camera aud decided to adjourn tho application for renewal for throe months. The Chairman said that the Committee considered that tho bouse was in a very unsatisfactory condition, and it was for thceo concerned to take some stops in the matter of improvement* during the interval namod. Mr Cassidy appeared for tho licensee in this ense. Tho other licenses in tho district, six in number, were renewed. - (press association- teugkax.) MARTON, June 7. The Manawatu LiwJnsing Committee yesterday postponed tho renewal of al] licences for tihrea months, to allow Che applicants, to comply witn the requisitions of the Public Health Department and the police.
