CURIOUS ASSOCIATION OF NAMES.
TO THE EDITOn O.V "THE THESS." Sir,—With reference to a paragraph I saw recently in your columns concerning the curious association of names on© meets with occasionally, I romomber in the early days of 1850-1 there lived in London street, Lyttelton, Mutton, Gru'bb. Tucker, Stout, Pepper, Salt and C-arlick—aW, in fact, thait was neceesary to provide, "a good feed," with condiments thrown, in; while to add zest to the festivities there was a Fyfe, but no drummer, though there was, at no great distance, a Drunvmond. In Holbom, London, many years ago, there- was a firm of linen drapers "Flint and Steel." In the Cathedral dose at Bristol in 1840 there was a bukflieT named Stabbime, whose shop I have frequently passed on my way to and from school. Oraoe there was a firm of lawyers in London (or elsewhere) rejoicing in the numes of Isaac Catchem and Uriah Choetem, who, when starting in business, required a door-plate, but being of a "frugal mind," they decided that to have their names in full would cost too much, both in the size of the plate and the lettering, go it was arranged that the initials oniTy of their Christian names wouild suffice. The result therefore stood "I. Catohem and U. Cheetem, Solicitors, ,, etc.—Yours, etc., 0. J. WENTWORTH COOKSON: Lyttelton, June 6th.
