♦ PROJECTED VISIT FROM AN AMERICAN TEAM. By last week's San Francisco mail Mr W. G» Garrard, secretary of tho Canterbury Rugby Union, received a letter from Mr It. P. and Mr' \V. K. Tiiller, president and captain respectively of the Associated Students of the University of California, which suggests the possibility of » visit from :t football team during tho present year. According to the letter, tho University of California contemplates sending ita Rugby team for a tour of New Zealand and Australia. The team would consist of at least twenty players, and it is proposed to arrive in Auckland on June 10th, leaving for Sydney on July 22ud, and commencing the. return jonrney to America on August oth. Tho team would be prepared to play matches in the chief centre* in this colony, the principle match of the tour, if posaiblc, to be played in Auckland just prior to the date of departure for Sydney. The expenses of a trip such as is proposed being heavy, tho writers are anxious to obtain all possible information as to the financial prcepec**- If _hey re * ceive an encouraging reply, the tonr may bo looked on as certaiiOo eventna.t«. Ev«ry member of tbe team, it is stated, would be a strict amateur, and the tour would be undertaken with the sanction of the American Athletic Union.
