ASHBURTON.
Wheat.—The contsnnance of the very dry weather is now having a most serious effect on all crops throughout the district, the heavy land suffering as well as the light. Millers are now taking a more serious view of tne situation, and enquiry during the last few day* ior good grain has been heavier than at any other time during the post season. On the other hand, buyers seem afraid to raise their buying limit* in view of probable competition from Australia. Very little business has so_ far been done, but there are indications of larger sales during the near future. Meanwhile prices remain:—Tuscan an. Pearl 3s Id. Hunter"* 3s, good whole fowl wheat 2s 10d. Oats.—There is no business to report. Very little, if any, oats being offered on the market, while on the other hand, the demand is exceedingly small. Farmers, who liad snrplns coats, have lately been withdrawing them from sale, preferring to hold until their next year's crop is in a more hopefnl condition.
