A start has been made with the erection of the Ashburton County Racing Club's new mandstand. Messrs J. Smith and Son were the sucoe*sful tenderers for the work: price £lr§n The stand, which is to be fini*bed by the ehd of February, will seat 600 people. "Entries for the Methven Sports Chib's Meeting to be held on January Ist, close this evening. Acceptances for the Wairarapa and Rangitikei R.C. Summer Meetings close this evening.
