AMBULANCE SATURDAY.

TO TH- EDITOR Of " TH_ PRESS.'' Sir, —So far my protest ajcainst "Ambulance Saturday" has virtually proved unanswerable. True, throe correspondents in to-day's "Press" (the 18th) have entered tho lists auainKt mc m a rather half-hearted manner, no doubt at the bidding of their lady friends; but it can bo seen at a glance that they aro not very serious about tie matter. On© writer, whilo denying ! that the lady collectors "pestered" the public for donations, admits tliat some of the young ladies were "a little too percistent," and if that does not mt-an pestering, I don't know what does! But the object of my protest seem, to 'be lost sight of in tlio general denunciation. What I objected to was the publio cadging for tbe funds of an irreesponfiiblo body, and I -till object ou that score . There are other means, far more legitimate to my mind, of raising the wind for fcit. John Ambulance Association, and which do not degrade the lady collectors liko accosting paesers-by at str<s«t corners docs. The public have a right to be protected against all those who have fads to ventilate; and for all the good that 1 have heard St. John Ambulance Asociation do«-s, its demi-se would cause no public grief. It is regarded as a high-toned institution, which believe* more in afternoon teas and garden parties than in ambulance work, and it is an impertinence to call on the public to foot the bill for these junketings.—Yours, etc.. PRACTICAL. [This correspondence is now clo6od.— Ed. "Press."] i
