THE TRAFALGAR STALL.
An exact reproduction of tho stern of the famous Victory, as she appears in Portmouth harbour, after her repairs, proclaims for a great distance that here, at the north end of tho gallery, is tho Trafalgar stall. The 6tern is only one-third less than actual size and with its windows, trellis work, and other carefully copied details, makes a beautiful and imposing sight. It is boing shown by the British and Foreign Sailors' Society, whose, secretary, the Rev. E. W. Matthews, is at present in sChristchurch in tho course of a tour of the colonies. The Victory is still a flagship of the Commander-in-ohicf. though she i-j chiefly used as thb one floating monument of the heroic past which culminated in Trafalgar. Among the other interesting exhibits at tho Trafalgar stall is a piece of timber from tho Victory's cockpit, still retaining the eld letters in faded gold. "Hero Nelson fell." There are also a copper bolt, some five feet long, which camo out of a vital part of the ship, two short Victory copper bolts, and an inscribed bust of Kelson, made of copper from his two flagship., the Victory and Foudroyant, and mounted on a turned Victory oak pedestal, standing on a larger piece of Victory oak just ns it wa3 cut out. Victory plaques, shields, medals, busts, charms, statuettes and spoons are also to lie seen, and may bo bought, while serviette rings, trays, and matchboxes made of from the Foudroyant will also have their admirers.
