SOUTHBRIDGE.
The South bridge Town Board met on Monday evening. Present—Messrs W. C Smith (chairman), W. B. Andrews, E. G. Hubbard, E. J. Cowan, J. Woods and M. Twits. It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs Twisa and Andrew, that the Board approves of the heavy traffic by-laws of tin© Road Boards' Association. In connection -with the proposed Seddon Memorial, Mr Ccwan advocated tho establishment of a technical university witlli f.re« echda-r----ships. The suggestion was carried. The terider-of Mr Victor B«irg for painting the Town Hall and Library for £14 19s lid was accepted. Mr Hubbard reported that two formation and shingling of McKenzio street had been proceeded with. The Chairman's action in granting permission to contractors to camp and lodge at the Immigration Barracks at a minimum rental ■waa approved. Mr Andrew reported the re-roofing of the Library, and repairing of tlv9 Town Hall floor had been attended to. Tho matter of disposing of tho old shLngb from tho roof iof tho Library was left in the hands of the Hall Committee. This baing tho last meeting of "the Board bcfaro tho deotion, votes of thanks were parsed to the Chairman, cfhairmen of tsw> various committees, and' the clerk. A meeting of tho District Band was held in South bridge on Mondny evening, Mr \V. C. Smith in tho chajr. The bandmaster reported that the band was progressing favourably, and that the members evinced much interest in their work. A vote of thanks was paa-ted to the donor of the gift of music to tho band, and accounts were passed for payment. The biennial election of Commissioners to fill seron vacancies on th© Southbridge Town Board took place on Wednesday. Xot much interest was evinced in tho contest, iratil an hour before'tho poll closed, when there wne a largo gathering to hear the result. Mr William Scott, was the returning officer. Tho following were elected: — W C. Smith 62 votes. Michael Curraai 60, Michael Riordan 59. Roes Moore 55, William Gilbert 52, J.S. Chapman 51, E. G. Huibbard 50. The unsuceessfa 1 candidates wero M. Twiss and Jones Woods.
The Old Oak Lodge, U.A.0.D., held a eucceraful eocial in the Scuthbridge Town Hall on Wednesday evening. There ivaea krpe att-endance, and Fox' 6 band supplied tho music.
