In the discussion on the Lotteries Amendment Bill the Attoniey-G-OTraral ©bated. he was prepaired to accept an amendment making persons buying, selling, or receiving tickets in "Tattersall's" sweeps liable to prosecution. FOREIGN JNSURANCECOMPANJES.
MELBOURNE, September 20.
The new Life Assurance Bill specifies that foreign companies opening buein-ess in the Commonwealth must deposit £20,000, the existing companies to deposit to the extent of twothirda the valuation of the policies. When the latter deposit is made the original deposit of £20,000 may be withdrawn.
GALE IN THE TASMAN SEA. (Received September 21st, 12.54 a.m.)
SYDNEY, September 20. cable has been received by the Observatory from Norfolk Island stating that a south-west gale is raging. The meteorologist states that the centre of disturbance ie now operating in the Tasman Sea in the latitude of Cook's Straits, and is travelling away from Australia.
