BRISBANE, August 11. At the National Show there was great competition in the Hereford class. Last year's • champion bull, Mountford, selected in New Zealand, where he took first prize, was beaten by Field Marshal, also bred in New Zealand, and the winner of the champion prize at last year's Melbourne Show. LAWN TENNIS. BRISBANE, August 12. In the Inter-State Lawn Tennis Championship, Queensland defeated New South Wales by 36 sets to 27. AN EARTHQUAKE. MELBOURNE, August 12. An earthquake shock, lasting four seconds, was felt at Mirboo on Friday night. It rattled articles on the shelves, but no serious damage was done. CROSS-COUNTRY RACE. Stillwell won the Five Miles Crosscountry Championship of Victoria in 29min lljsec, beating G. Blake by 181eec.
