THE EXHIBITION DIFFICULTY.

We understand that Sir Joseph WaTd is coming to Christohurch shortly to enquire on the spot'into the difficulty which has aa-isem in connection with the Exhibition. We have no doubt he will investigate the whole business fairly and dispassionately, and! we do not desire to say one word to prejudice his decision. It must be evident to everyone, from the statements which we (publish in another column, made by gentlemen who have been intimately connected with, the tfiorking of the committees 'that the trouble is deep-seated and by no means of reoont origin. Two things are urgently needed—first, come aanrangement by which the' local committees may ibo utilised to better purpose and with more prospect of their working hax.moniousJy with (he executive officials than is the case at present. Secondly, a prompt consideration of several important matters which have been hong >up for some time owing to the apparent impossibility of getting them dealt with by the Government. Of these the arrangements for the orchestra may -be mentioned as a typical case. Sir Joseph Ward has now an excellent opportunity of showing his business capacity and tact. We believe bo Ls as anxious as anybody for the success of the Exhibition, and we have no doubt ho will givo this question (his best attention, (realising as he must do how much depends, at thds stage, on a satisfactory arrangement being promptly (made.
