MUNICIPAL MARKETS.
(press assocution* telegram.) WELLINGTON, August 10. Tlie subject of Huuicipal .jnarkdts came before a meeting of t]io City Council last night in a somewhat tontatime- manner, tlie actual 'result merely being that tho committee which has been considering tho matter for some timo past, ivaff given further timo to make enquiries. So far «s can bo gathered irom available sources, the committee is not, as a whole, too favourably disposed to tho proposal to establish markets in Wellington, partly bocauso of the supposed unsuitability of the city for such an undertaking on account of its topographical peculiarities, and partly because tho information to hand from some other places goes to show that municipal markets aro not a source of municipal revenue. Whether those views aro right or wrong is, of course, a matter for argument, but meanwhile the committee purposes at an early date to hold a sorios of meeting, which will be open to the public, and at which persons interested in the subject will be asked to give their views, so as to enable tho committee to draft a report for presentation to tlie Council!'.. .
