An application was granted, on the motion of defendant, ordering a stay of proceedings in the case Crick versus Mr Justice Owen. The Court took tho view that Mr Justice Owen, as Lands Commissioner, was endowed with the powers and immunities of the Supreme Court. f BOWLING. It is persistently stated in shipping circles that negotiations are proceeding between the New Zealand and Commonwealth Governments to arrange for the steamers of tho new mail service to proceed on to New Zealand. The PremicT was quest oned in the Assembly to-day as to whether he wae aware that tramp steamers manned by Chinese and Norwegians and other foreigners at low wagee, were at prosent engaged in the trade between Australia and New Zealand in unfair competition with vessels manned by British and colonial seamen.
