A LABOUR MANIFESTO.
(PnESS ASSOCIATION* TELECE.VM.) AUCKLAND, July 13. Tho executive of the New Zealand Trades and Labour Conference, in reply to liio manifesto by tho Ne-w Zealand Employers' Federation, says that Mr Tregear has fallen under its ban because he dared to express his privato opinions in a private Jc-itcT to an indiscreet author, and aids: "Unless this tendency to interfere in private affairs is checked, we may &0011 expect an attempt to determine, m which church wo may worship. It is denied that tho Employers' Federation can claim it assisted to pase any ono measure for the betterment of tho masse:.. It is asserted tho Federation war? actuated solely by selfieh motives. It is etatod that preference to unionists is only tho logical oiitccmo of the Arbitration Act, 1894, wliioh in its proamblo was stated to Iks an Act to encotirago the formation of industrial unions, and that the Arbitration Court should grant unconditional preference to unionists, ;ind unionists would re=t satisfied until they had wrung from the Legislature a measure providing for that inherent right of every unionist. The- Federation is asked to consider whether unorganised workers are paid a wage sufficient to rear a family decently on or provide for a rainy day, and then to grant increased pny, when, the community would believe thoir professions wore difnntor<eto<l beneficence. Labour interests might lo?o ground ono day, but would regain it the day after, end the opposition of capitalistic federations would only spur unionists on to renewed energy.
