An adjourned meeting, of the Eden Licensing Comniittco was field toKl*y, when, in consequence of the reduction vote having been carried at tho last local option poll, the number of licenses was reduced by one. The licenaa refused was that'of the New' Lynn Hotel, situated in a sparsely populated district. Tlie other three licenses—those of tho Avondale, Junction and Epsom hotels —were granted. At a meeting of the Manukau Licensing Committee, in whose district reduction was carried, it was decided to cancel the licenses of tho Royal and Victoria hotels, both, of which aro situated in Onehumja. I GISBORNE, June 29. At the adjourned meeting of the Waiapu Licensing Committee at Gisborne, to-day, it was 1 ' insisted that thero must be a new licensee for one country hotel, and three months' adjournment was allowed to permit of some other person applying. Tho chairman Baid the committee could havo refused the license owing to the unclean condition in which tho hotel had been found. Tlie other adjourned applications wero further deferred, toenable completion of tho improvements insisted on. A large petition and counter petition were received regarding the Te Kahui Hotel, Waiapu, which the police had reported as unnecessary. Tho chairman said the committee wero satisfied as to the accommodation provided, and it was useless to take evidence, because even if they concluded that tho house was not required, they had no power to refuse a license on that ground. Conditional licenses for the races next week, and for the stock sales were refused, the police reporting adversely in each caso. DUNEDIN, June 29. The Waikouaiti Licensing Committee iret to-day to hear, under an order of the Supremo Court, an (application for I renewal of an accommodation license for the. Railway Hotel,...At Waiannkora, which had been refused at the annual meeting. Tho committee, under section 63, took objection to granting ft license, on the ground that the premise'} liad not been maintained at the required standard, that they wero out of repair, and insufficiently furnished, and tliat tlie places of convenience were not kept in a clean and wholesome state. It was decided to serve notice on tho owner, and to Adjourn, till July 11th, . to consider objections.
