BOWLING.
♦ Several }iromhient Wellington Uowlors have received copies of tno following letter from Mr Payne (cx-presid'ent of fche Now Zealand Bowling Association): —"Whcu tho Victorian toam of crickoters was over here, Warwick Armstrong, tlK> captain, nsontiojied the fact that tlio Mel-bourno Cricket Club had a splendid bowling grcon, and that Major Wardill was now an entliusiaatic bowler. Armstrong suggested that a New Zealand team of bowlers should visit Australia, and request Major Wardill to errango a tour. I ]iavo taken up tbo matter, and am pleased to say that even, at this early stajro quite a sufficient number of good- bowlers have promised! to go to ensure a stfeceesful tour. I could get a team of sixteen men from tho South Island, but am anxious to have tho team composed of first-class bowlers. It is intended to leave about tho beginning of October, and bo away six weeks. This arrangement irculd enable the visiting team to see the Melbourne Cup, and also a test cricket match. I am trying to arrange- for a rink from each of the Auckland, Wellington and Christ church oe-ntrcs, and would be pleased if you could arrange to make one of the team."
