MR J. RICHARDSON.
Mr John Richardson, the successful candidate in tho Woolston, Sumner, and Heatheote sub-district, is a wellknown local identity. A Scotchman by birth, he came to Woolston in 1870, and has resided'there ever since, always taking a prominent part in its local life. The first public body lie joined was the old .Woolston Town Board, when ho was placed on the Finance Committee. Subsequently be was appointed chairman of tho Board, and held that position until the body became defunct. When the Woolstou Borough Council was created, he was made Mayor, and held the office for three consecutive terms. After a short spellho accepted office as Mayor again, and lias now held bis seat for tho past fivo terms. He is also a member of tho Lyttelton Harbour Board, and has served on School Committees and taken an active part in connection with the Woolston Public Library since its inocptiotv Richardson -was a member of 'the original committee set up to consider the question of municipalising the tramways. He has long been a leading figure in local Friendly Society circles. Mr Richardson is tn favour of the merit and demerit system, with any necessary modifications, and holds that after a provision has been made for tho sinking fund and depreciation, profits should be devoted to the reduction of fares. He "is also strongly in favour of connecting via Falsgravo street. * MR D. SYKES. Mr D. Syke*, tho newby elected member for ihs Riccarton, Spreydon, and HaLrwel! district, wee born in Yorkshire, and came to this colony in 1883, arriving et Lyttelton. He was a cabinet-maker by trade, and for two y«.ue was foreman for Mr R. Hooker, but shortly afterwards ho started business on his own account. About tbm , years ngo he tcok up a position amanager for Mr Hammat, Uuilder, Addington, which ho still liolcJs. Mr Syke*, though Hβ has ncv<*r represented a district on any local body before, has tciken a keen interest in tho district, especially in tramway matters. Ho is at prosvnt. a member of the fcJpreydon School Committee.
