THE TRAMWAY BOARD ELECTIONS.
TO THE EDITOR UV "iTIE rRKSS. 1 * . Sir,—Your correspondent, ''M.J.W." in this morning's paper, refers to remarks made by Mr C. F. Salter at his mooting on the subject of steam tirrms, and adds, "He is so obviously the nominee of the- 'Clock Tower terminus' party, that this 'red herring.' " etc., etc. I wish to give this statement ia most emphatic denial. The fact i* Mr A. Williamis, chairman of the St.. Albans Sohool Committee, and permanent chairman of the newly formed Burgesses' Association, was urged to como forward as a candidate, before he had decided what to do in tho matter. Mr Salter, at the requo-t of a number of his supporters in this district, announc-, od himself as a candidate, and Mr Williams at once declined tho offer in his favour.—Yours, etc., ST. ALBANITE. June 27.
