MR SEDDON'S LAST HOURS IN SYDNEY.
THE BODY TO BE EMBALMED.
SYDNEY, June 11. The manager of the Press Association had a final interview with Mr Seddon on Saturday night. The Premier looked well, but was evidently tired. He said:—"lt has been ono of tho hardest month's work I have had, but I think it will bo of advantage to Now Zealand. I wish to thank you for what you have done for mo. You have been very good." In the evening Mr Seddon and his flamily attended the performance of "The Man from Mexico." They afterwards had 6upper, and then went aboard the steamer. The vessel was a hundred and, forty miles from .the heads at the time of Mr Seddon's death. Doctor Minchin, the ship's doctor, has given a certificate that death was due to heart failure.
The body will bo embalmed, and the vessel will probably resume her voyage to Wellington as soon as tho operation is completed.
such a shock that one is pretty well unnerved. To mc it seems such an awful thing. Only on Saturday I went to him and shook luinds, and said 'Good-bye,' never thinking it Avas a last farewell. It is too great a shock for mc to speak now. The loss of a man like Mr Seddon at any time would bo a publio oalanlity, but when it occurs under circumstances like the present it is a public shock. Mr Seddon came here for rest, but it was apparent to us all that he worked very hard, and probably that and the strenuous life he has been living for the Last sixteen years brought about his untimely death." The evening papera publish early editions containing appreciative notices of the deceased statesman.
