NORTH OTAGO GRAIN YIELD.
Yesterday's Oairarii "Mail" says:— . "Tho 'returns of grain for tlio North Otago district are a little below the estimate made some weeks ago. Wheat has averaged just ft fraction under 33 bushels to the acre, as against about 40 bushels last year. Oats average 45 bushels, as compared with about. 62 buehels last year. The yiekt of potatoes is four tons to the acrej which is rather below the average crop. The grain is.generally speaking of good fair sample, and doss not appear to oe mate- . rially affected in quality by the lateness v of the harvest. When tho returns were made up several largo growers Jhad not completed their threshing, and it is expected that these will increase '■ the figures we have given to 6ome small j extent. 'We learn that the potato disease has not attacked the crops away from the const .-inpreciably, though tho growth woe checked by the unfavourable weather. Near town the disease j created a good deal of havoc, but the i country crops appoar to have baea sur- ■< prieingly immuno from ite depredativis.' T
