CONCERT.

A concert was given last night in the Choral Hail in connection with the Canterbury branch of tho Xew Zonlaml Arbnr Day League. Mi"s Goivor Burns sjuip; appropriately to the <lay tho good i old song, "The Red, \V!iit<? «nd Blue," | and in rcsponee to an encore gave ''If j No Ono Ever Marries Mc," from ''Tho j Daisy C2)«in." In "the second part Mrs ; Burns sang "The Beating of My Own i Heart" cxcdlertly, and was encored. ! Wfltichop' gave "In M.«y Time" j very wull indeed, and being cnoored re- ! spoiulad with "Night Has a Thousand Eyo«.\' Misa Freda Maiisden, who has , not heen hoard on a concert platform in Christchnrcli for some time, played ; a violin eolo, "Cavatina," by Bohm. Mr . W. F. Day was heard to advantage in "Nirvana" and ''The llomany I>ase," and took part in a duet with Mr It. Lnko, while Mr It. A. Home's song, '"The ; Stout, Strong Hearts," was well eung j by Mr Claudo Alpin. Mr Painter's I Ladies' lCstudiantina Band played a | coupk> of well, as did also the Garrison Band. In lighter vein, Mr E. Bchr.ts! ar.d Mr C. JOdpj.ir gave humorous very siiccossfiillj', an<l Mr Densom'ti recitations were greatly enjoyed. Mise Katiu Younc and Mr R. A. Hor-a actwl as accompanists very efficiently. During the evening Mr H. G. K!l,. M.H.R., gave n short address on tho objects of the Arbor Day Ltaguo.
