THE CANTERBUBY COURT,

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Canterbury Court m conneotion with the Exhibition was held yesterday, when Mr H. Overton presided. The ecoretary reported that he had oommunicated with the various looal bodies. Letters were read as follows:— tmn the Waipara Roed Board, stating that they had no funds ait fcheir disposal; from the Spreydon Roed Board, «*preeer i ing the opinion that the amount should I oome from the County Council; fram i the Chamber of Commerce, saying that '■ they had no funds at their disposal for the purpose; from the Mandevilto and R-nngiora Road Board, stating that they had voted £25, and would be prepared to vote an amount up to the third contributed to the Hospital Board if oher looal bodies did co; from the Little Riwr Road Board, offering to contribute up to one-third of their contribution to the Hospital Board; from the Cheviot County Council, stating that they would bo willing to contribute on. the line* of the contribution to the Hospital Board; from the Ohriati church City Council, promising to coni tribute £300. ' The Chairman said that the Selwyn County Council hod not replied, and 3ie believed the other local todies wore 1 holding back until after the meetaog of the Council. Mr Hood Williams thought they ehould urge the Selwyn County Oouncil to conitribute aceorcK'ng to the oon» tribution to tlie Hospital Board. The West Eyreton Road Board would contribute not less than £30. The Oust Road Board met nerb day. The local bodies !ho had seen were generally in. favour of contribiitiiaig up to the amount of their Hospital Board contribution. I Road Board be wntten to again on tno subject. ~ ~ The Chairman eaid when Mr Gray and himself were in Timaru and Ashburton they had arranged for two mombers to consult ac to the approaches aad decoration of the Canterbury court. iHo thought the Executive should ap--1 point two members to meet the repiei sontatives of Aehburton end Tianaru. 1 Mr Thomas suggested that they ebould endeavour, ac tar as pa able, to ! connect the Canterbury court witih "Prime Canterbury." The visitors from i England and elsewhere «new of "Prime Canterbury," and he thought it tfouM be as well to make it known where 'Trime Canterbury" came from. Mr Williams thought that perhaps ft would be better to defer the matter until after the next general meeting, when they would know their financial position. ". j. , It wae resolved that tJie appointment of tihese delegates should stand over till the next general meeting. • In reply to a question from Mr Relph, the ohairaan eaid he thought that there was no doubt that the amount of £2000 required for the expenses of the Canterbury court would be obtained, as tho local bodies -were coming forward very well in the matter. Mr G. R. Hart wae added as a- member of the Executive; with a view of setting up an Early H:etory Section in , connection with the Canterbury court. It was resolved that the chairman »nd Mr Righton interview the Comnrieeionera with the object of ootaoning rooms, if possible, in the Exh.bit:on . offices for the meetings connected with the Canterbury court. t The next general meeting wae fixed for Friday* June Bth, at 2.80 p.m.
