(PRESS ASSOCtATIOK TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, May 23. At the inquest on Gunner Hay. of the New Zealand Permanent. Artill?ry. who shot himself at Fort Bnllance yesterday, the wife of the deceased deposed that her husband had been under the impression for some time past that the men at the fort attributed the death of Gunner Palmer to him. Palmer was the victim of a gun explosion at the fort twelve months ago. When Hay came home -festerday ho took up a rifle, and before his wife coul.l secure assistance, he had shot himself. Sergeant Heath and Gunner Murdoch deposed that they had never heard that Hay was blamed for the death of Palmi.-:", which was purely accidental. A verdict of "suicide while temporarily insane" was returned.
