THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH.
TO THK EDITOR Ot "XHI FKESS." Sir, —Permit mo, sir, to tnko the liberty of suggesting to Mr "Charity," who flavours your columns of tho Otih May, that he should make himself a littlo more acquainted with facts before he ventures to display his criticisms of ofheT more- learned gentlemen. I trust ho will not consider mc impertinent if I give him a most empbatio denial to hie statement tliat the Roman Catholic Church hee weathered tho theological storms of nineteen hundred yeara. Is ho aware of the fact that the birth of this self-same Church <lat«j from tho 16th July, 1054? If pot, allow mc to inform him that such ie so. This statement can easily be verified in the pages of any reliable history of the Church. Instead of predominating for nineteen centuries, it has merely existed for 852 years exactly, during which period the mighty edifice of Romanism has been pierced through and through with the well-armed darts of Truth and Light. As to this, howwer, I diall let him rest content with i» own opinion. My only excuse for penning tho above refutation of "Cliarity's." statement is a common enough one—"Cuilibet credunt etulti."—Yours, etc..
JOILX MACKAY.
