THE NEED OF FIRMNESS.

In the House of Commons, Sir Edward Grey, in reply to Mr Balfour, reviewed tho events in connection witlh the Tabah dt-piite and said th& Pcrtecontended firstly that Akaba, and the Sinai Peninsula were outside the territory defined by tJio Imperial firman of 1802, secondly trtat. tho Grand Vizier's telegram of April, 1892, only referred to tho we.stern side of the Peninsula, end thirdly that the interpretation of the telegram euneerwd tlto Porto alone. Sir Edward Grey eaid. that sucJi demands, if admitted, would constitute a real danger to tho freedom of the Suez Canal, the liberties of Egypt, and tho Kludival dynasty. Ho empliasized Great Britain's patioi:(ae and moderation. It. was impossible' to defer niont indefinitely, henco Great Britain's pressing the original demand for a. delimitation of the frontier. Hβ confirmed tht» presentation of a note requesting a favourable reply within ten days. Sir Edward Grey added that it j wjiis important tJiat tho frontier should i remain as it existed, undisputed and undistiirlKxl, for many years previous to the occupation. (.General cheers).
