THE NEWSPAPER PRESS DIRECTORY.
The Newspaper Press Directory of Messrs C. Mitchell and Co., the wellknown advertising agents, of 1 and 2 Know Hill, London, is now in its sixty-s-econd year. Tho sixty-first number, just to hand, con tains a mine of information of great use to the business man anxious to push his wares in the markets of the world. Particulars aro given of -i'l newspapers and magazines published 1 in the United Kingdom, and of the principal pa pern published in the other parts of the Empire and the rest of the world. Tho special articles are, ;;s usual, a noteworthy feature of the publication. Among the article- this year is on© dealing with recent judicial decisions in cases of libel, copyright and newspaper insurance, and on© dealing with advertising, presenting a contrast between past and present methods, and hints as to tho .best mivms of advertising. Mr T. A. Cogh.lan, the Agent-General of New South Wales, writes on "Aiisr.r_ia*s Oves-sea Trade," and 'Tho Imperia 1 Problem of the Twentieth Century" is also dealt with. As usual, the directory contains reviews of tho import t.ittde of the various ports of the Empire, from which the. trader can. obtain much valuable, information. On the whole, the reviews aro decidedly optimistic in tone, though tho writers continue to warn British traders not to undcr-cstimate the dangers likely to arise from the increasing and persistent competition of foreign rivals in fislds of enterprise which not long ago were wholly-in British hands. The Directory covers a wide field of interest, and fully justifies its .reputation as a firstclass work of reference.
