THICK FOG ON THE COAST.
Vessels which arrived nt LytteKon yesterday reported n dense fog along the ooapt,
wndering it neoemary for »teamer» to p»ceed with extreme oairtion. Pateeua, which came down fawn Wellington in piece oi the Mararoa, did not make port until 11.35 a.m. Ceptain S. Kennedy suted that the fog first became troublesome off Kaikoura about 1 a-m- arid it got thicker as the TOaeel came further south, until it was "as thiok as a hedge." The Peteena was close to the Heads ut 8.30 c.m., but it was nearly 11 o'oiook before she got inaide, arid she arrived in the inner harbour at 11.35 a^n.
