(Received April 19th 8.13 a.m.) NEW YORK, April 18. A very violent earthquake has been experienced in San Francisco. It is reported that a thousand people have been killed. Enormous damage, has been done, and half the city is in ruins. [EXTRAORDINARY.] (Received April 19th, 5.42 p.m.) NEW YORK, April 18. Tho she** at San Fnancisco began, at sixteen minutes past five on the moming of the 18th, and lasted for several minutes. Other shocks followed at intervals. A wide area is affected by the disaster. Most of the telegraph wires are down. Many deaths have occurred as a result of buildings collapsing.

THE CITY SWEPT BY FIRE. EIGHT SQUARE MILES OF FLAME. TREMENDOUS DAMAGE. ANXIETY IN NEW ZEALAND.
