MAYORAL ELECTIONS.
CHRISTCHURCH. The nomination for the Mayoralty of Christchurch closed yesterday at noon. Sir John Hall was tho only candidate, being nominated by Mr John Anderson and Han. Charles Louisson. He was declared duly elected as Mayor for the ensuing year. LYTTELTON. .Messrs S. R. Webb and W. Radcliffe have been nominated for the office of Mayor of Lyttelton, and a poll will be taken on Wednesday next, at the Lyttelton Fire Brigade Station. SUMNER. Mr C. A. Lees was tho only candidate nominated yesterday for thei Mayoralty of Sunxner, and was declared elected. NEW BRIGHTON. Mr G. D. Maofarlane has been no- i minated as Mayor of New Brighton. The nominations close to-day at noon. UNOPPOSED 7 "RETURNS. The following unopposed returns a>re telegraphed by the Press Association :— Thames—Mr Archibald Burnee (reelected). GLsborne—Mr John Townley. He hae held the office for sixteen yeans Ln succession. Inglewood—Mr W. Percival (recleAted). Hawera—Councillor HiTst. Woodville—Mr Hubert Burnett (rocketed). Maerte-rton—Mr J. A. Renall (reelected). Palmerston North—Mr M. Cohen (re-elected). Wellington—The Hon. T. W. Hislop (re-elected). Miramar—Mr Frederick Townsend. Lower Hutt—Mr T. W. McDonald. Blenheim—Mr Edward H. Penney (re-elected). Picton—Dr. Redman. Ashburton—Mr Henry Davis (reelected). This is the fourth consecutive time that Mr Davis has been, returned. Temuka—Mr Thomas Burton (reelected for tho fourth consecutive term). Vunaru—Mr J. Craigie (re-elected far the fifth year in suceessiou). Waimate—Mr John Manchester. This makes his sixth consecutive return to the office. Oamaru—Mr Robort Mifligan (reeleoted). At his installation. Mr Milligan stated that he did not anticipate that any difficulty whatever was in store for the borough on account of prohibition having bean carried. Increases in the revenue from other Hoirroee would more than compensate for the loss of license fees. • Palmeirstan South—Mr Clark (reelected). Dunedin—Councillor George Lawrence. The new mayor came to Otago from Blackiieath thirty-two years ago. Ho is a builder, and set up in business in Dunedin two years after arriving. He has been thrice returned as Councillor, and hae occupied a number of public positions in the city. Gore—Councillor J. Gait. Invercargill—Mr v.. B. Scandrett (re-elected for the third consecutive term).
