The Hon. Albert Pitt left for Wellington last night. The Rev. T. G. Brooke, the Rev. L. D. Thomas, Mr P. Wynn-Williams, and Mr A. Croll left for Wellington last night. Mr and Mrs Townsend left for Sydney by the Zealandia yesterday. MrD. Rutherford, of Leslie HUls, was a passenger to Culverden by Tuesday uijht's train. Misses Buss (2), Rangiora, returned from a visit to the North Island yesterday. Mr \V. 0. Rutherford (Montrose) was a passenger by yesterday morning's express to Culver-en. Mr Harold B. Lusk, .-.A., assistant master of the Newmarket public scliooi (Auckland), has been appointed a house master at Christ's College, Chr.stchurch. .Mr H. B. Rutherford (Little River), .Mr A. Beaver (Dunedin), Mr R. Finiayson, Mr F. W. Hamilton, Mr E. Whelan (Dunedin), Mr T. Wagstaff (Timarii), -Mr D. 1). Macfarlane (Lyndon), and Mr \V. Macßao-Peuocck (Su annanoa) arrived in Chrifttchurch yesterday. The Hastings Presbyterian Churcli has unanimously decided to send a call to the Rev. Donald Mclvor, of Herbert. Otago. • At the Manchorter Unity Oddfellows' meeting at Nelson yesterday a present at.on of an afternoon silver tea-set was made to Grand Master Loasty. Colonel Sniithsen, now on the retired list, but la't-eiy of the 13th Hussars, and who took his regiment through the Boer war, is expected to arrive in Timaru next week to spend some little time with litis brother, Six S. F. Smithscn, of Timaru. Mias Digby, Miss Maud Digby, and M_sa Irene Digby returned from Hann:er Springs last ni^'ht. Mr Alexander Macintosh, who has recently retired from tne general management of the Bank of i\ew Zealand, h«.s arrived in Sydney, with tho intention of settling in New South Wale.-. It is expected that Mr J. K. Warburton, Controller and Auditor-Gene-ral, will be able to resume his duties next month. Mr J. Oakley Browne, a well-known Now Zealand journalist, is in town. The appointment of Adjutant for the Otago Militia and Volunteer District has been conferred on Captain S. V. Trask—a kmi of tho Hon. Frank Trask, M.L.C.—at present acting as District Adjutant at Nelson. Mr E. G. Jellicoo, late of New Zealand, who was defeated for tne Walton (Liverpool) division in tho recent Home elections, writes to an Australian friend that he has been promised an early byelection. The Walton and Liverpool Liberal Associations both passed resolutions congratulating Mr Jellicoe upon his splendid fight in tho recent election, and acknowledging his services to the party. Mr 11. T. Twyford, who was for some years in chargo ot the Eastern Extension Cable Co.'s station at Cable .uay, Nelson, has resigned from the company's service, in order to enter into business in the Old Country. Mr Iwyford, who left tho colony two years ago, was well-known in biisines-s "circles in New Zealand, as he took an active part in conserving tho interests of tho Eastern Extension Cable Co. when it was brought face to face with the keen competition of tho Stato-owne3 cable. On leaving New Zealand Mr Twyford went to Penang, in the Straits- Settlement, and a few months ago he had to temporarily relinquish pervice in the tropics on account of ill-health. Tho representatives of tho outside colleges taking part in the University Tournament left town on their return journey yesterday, some by the southern express in the morning, others by the evening steamer for the north. A number of Canterbury College students assembled to see the visitors off.
