(PHF.SS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM .J INVERCARGILL, April 14. The Axemen "c Carnivnl began to-day in perfect wtather. Most ol the eventd have not yet come to the final stage*. The Maiden Chop, ISinch logs, was won by J. A. Healey, who «k?uis likely to show well in bigger events. Time, '2 mm 23 2-o!*>c. in the Standing Block Chop C. O'Roiirke qualified in his beat, which was won by Healey (40sec). Time, 2min 57 2-ceec. Waldron and Lane won the Maiden Sawing, 18inch. Time, 15r.ee. In the Sawing Handicap Chisholm Bros, (ecr) won their heat, with T. Kelly and C. O'Roiirke (3spc.) second, and Forde Bros. (3sec) third. Time, 20fiec. Carson and Macintosh just managed to geft in the final. Time, 2osec. The final was v.on by O'Rourke and Kelly, with Chifiholm Bros, second, and Carson and Macintosh third. Won by 2?ec. Chisholms' saw began to run out, and lost them first place. Time, 22 3-osec.
