SOME VOLUNTEER "DON'TS."
The following twenty "Don'ts," being camp hints for recruits and others, were compiled by a Staff SergeantMajor in the New South Wales forces: —1. Don't forget that the first duty of a soldier is obedience —dinna forget. 2. Don't ask the reason why when you get an order—do it. 3. Don't talk back to your superiors in rank—swallow it. 4- Don't talk in tbe ranks at attention—ring off. 5- Don't lie in after reveille sounds—hustle out. 6. Don t start to dress for parade when the I allin sounds—be ready. 7. Don't hang your clothes or accoutrements on the floor—be tidy. 8. Don't try to play on your tent-mates —do your work. 9. Don't fail to make it sultry for a "waster" in the tent—deal it out. lU. Don't make an enemy of the campoook—bad tactics. 11. Don't forget your chum when on guard—bad comradeship. 12. Don't forget the Order of the Bath. 13. Don't nurse a grievance—bear and forbear—a motto for everybody. 14. Don't look for trouble, oamp is too short for that—wink the other. 15. Don't fail to keep sweet with the quartermaster-sergeant —kidneys, etc. IG. Don't indulge Jn filthy language—it isn't manly. 17. Don't keep too close to the orderly-sergeant —it doesn't pay. 18. Don't imbibe unwisely and too well—oh, what a difference in the morning. 19. Don't forget previous merry camps—"where are the boys of the old brigade?" 20. Don't forget absent comrades —"should old acquaintance be forgot?"
