NEW BRIGHTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The fortnightly meeting of the New Brighton .borough Council was held on Monday night. Present—Tho Mayor (Mr C .H. Winny), and Ors. Glanville, Otley, Hawker, CaygUl, Macifartane, Bellamy, Mason, IsraeT3an,""fin.d Lightbody. , ' Correspondence waft read from the Charitable Aid Board notifying that the Council's contribution to tlhe Board for tiie present year would be £19 6s Bd. The North Canterbury Hospital Board also wrote notifying that the Council's proportion of contribution for the present year would be £27 19s 6d. This and the previous letter were referred to the Finance Committee. The Christchurch Drainage Board wrote, stating that the method in which the Council had struck the rate for last year was erroneous, and not in acoordr ance with law, and the deficit would be included in this year's estimates. The Engineer of the ChristohaiTch Tramway Board wrote, asking at what lovels the Council desired the top of the Board's rails laid through the borough. Lithograph plains were enclosed ehowing the position of the line running from the bridge to the beach., and notifying that the turn out would be placed at the tor minus of the line. It was decided to ask the Board to take the level at five inches for thfc ontside rail. The Town Clerk wee aeked to ascertain what number of subscribers were likely to the proposed exchange. The Finance Commit*ee repv-bed that tlhe receipts since iaefc* meeting were £17 3s 2d, and the debit balance at bink on general account £293 4s 7d. The report was adopted. It was decided to unnrove the road lending from Nurse Maud's Women's O.Tmp to the beach.
