THE DEER-STALKING FATALITY.
TRAGIC DEATH OF A WELLKNOWN ATHLETJS.
(SPICIAT. TO "THK FKESS.") WELLINGTON, April 11. Stubbs, who wae shot by his companion, F. Hawke, while, out deerstalking, was oniy twenty-four years of age. He was weil-known in swimming, aquatic, and athletic circles in Wellington, and -was in the railway service in Wellington before his transfer to Christchurch. Ho arrived in Wellington iast Saturday on holiday leave with Evans.
Mr G. H. Stubbs, tho victim of the fatal shotting accident while deer-stalk-ing at Maryborough, was well known in local sporting circles. He was an enthusiastic swimmer, and represented the Christchurch Club on the Canterbury Centre. He was aleo a member .of the Christchurch Hockey Club, and gave promise of being a skilful player this season. Mr Stubbs was employed in the railway stores department, Addington, and his tragical death has cast a gloom amongst his associates. Mr W. Johnson'secretary of the Canterbury Centre, telegraphed condolence to the deceased's parents, and also for a wreath to be placed on the grave from Canterbury ewimmere.
