An important development has' occurred in the northern coal district, resulting in tho combination of twentyfour out of tho thirty collieries. It is anticipated that the soiling price of coal will be raised within a fortnight. For some time the beet coal has been selling lit from 7s to Bs, while the miners have been paid a hewing rate based on a selling price of 9s. Tho miners are taking action in view of this development to secure an advance of 8d on their present rate. A TERRIFIC THUNDERSTORM. There was a terrific thunderstorm between Sydney and the Blue Mountains last night. Fire inches of rain fell. The railway line wan washed away at Glenbrook, and a landslip was precipitated on the.line, which was .blocked for many hours.
