ACCIDENT TO THE STEAMER WOOTTON.
THE VESSEL REFLOATED
Captain Willie, Marine Surveyor and agent for the underwriters, proceeded from. Lyttelton'to the Kaiapoi bar yesterday. The Wootton •was insured against total loss with the Victoria Insurance Company for £2000. Strenuous efforts were made to float the vessel on jesterday tide, but without success. Captain ' Rennio has seven or eight in hie crow, and with the assistance of a strong tiarty of local men another determinea attempt was made yesterday to get the steamer into the channel, but failure had again to bo recorded. The vessel 1 has been in no way injured as the winds have been, light and the seas calm. The ill fortune which has befallen tnb Wootton on her second trip has not discouraged the shareholders of the Kaiapoi Trading and Shipping Company, who have received many' proffers of- assistance. - ' . . It is not quite cloar how the vessel grounded, but the signals are said to have been in good order, and Mr G. Wright, the signalman, was most anxious to assist in every way. On the first trip he acted as pilot, but Captain Rehnie has frequently, a year or two ago, sailed up the river. The bar is said to have had a depth of Oft, and the channel, though not straight in, was well denned when seen in full daylight. The Wootton came off the sand bank on last evening's tide, and 6team«d up the river to the wharf-. Aβ far as can be seen, she is none tho worse'for <her'enfbrcea stay on the bar.
