THE ELINGAMITE'S GOLD.
ANOTHER ATTEMPT AT ITS RECOVERY.

The hunt for the Elingamito treasure is not yet ended, despite the recent failures. Air John N. Parkes, of Townsville, Queensland, is the latest in the field. Speaking to a reporter, he said:—" A few North Qneonslanders, including Dr. T. F> McDonald, of Geraldtown, M,r Archibald Mecgregor, his son, Mr John Macgregor (both of the last-named are marine engineers), Mr J. K. Meehan, and . myself, have taken up a little scheme. We fancy, but we may be wrong, that -we have a little patent diving apparatus, which will enable ua to recover the specie that went down with the Elingamite. I'm not going to say anything much about it. If we succeed, well, there will be plenty to talk about, because it will be absolutely a revelation in deep sea diving work. Mr Meehan ajid tho rest of the party are now in Auckland. We all came over from Sydney together, but I ran down to Wellington to make arrangements that were necessary with Mr |A. M. Gow, ..and. with Lloyd's agents. These matters 'have been satisfactorily fixed up: We have chartered the tug Pelican, which was used on the last attempt to secure the £17,000, which* we believe, is still in or about the Elingamite, or all that is left of her." Mr J. K. Meehan, who is interested in the venture, is editor of the North. Queensland '" Herald," end one of the principal shareholders in the '• Townsvilleßulletin,"-
