VICTORIAN ACCOUNTANTS

A CHARTER REFUSED. United Prees Association—By Electrio Tele^rapb-^Copyright. LONDON, March 2. The Privy Council has advised tho King not to confer a charter on. the Victorian accountants. MELBOURNE, March 3. The accountants' application referred to in the cablo practically came from three institutes, the Victorian, Ballarat, and Federal Institute (which is another Melbourne society) They applied for a charter for tho tide of t4ie "Incorporated Institute of Accountants of Victoria." Opposition was manifested to the proposal by other societies, particularly tho Sydney ones, and three petitions -were sent to England asking that the request be refused. The reason for tho opposition was that there ie at present no chartered institute of accountants in Au6traJia, all the societies standing on their own foundations, and there is a strong feeling in favour of one chartered institute being formed for the whole of the Commonwealth.
