RE CHIEF VETERINARIAN.
TO IHB EDITOR O» "THE PRESS." Sir,—With reference to tha articles which have appeared in your paper concerning tho above, I wish to suggest, that in the event of the Government being unable to retain the services of tho present Chief of the Veterinary Division, an endeavour should bo made to get Dr. Salmond, late Chief of the bureau of Animul Industry to the United States Department of Agriculture, to come to this country, it only for a. short time, to organise the Department. Dr. Salmond has had twenty years as Chief of the United States Department of Animal Industry, which lias been well organised, and has done excellent work under his administrationHe has, of his own motion, resigned from the United States service, and, I believe, could be induced to come to this colony to organise, if not to take charge, Jiven it ho could not be entioetl to enter tho New Zealand service permanently, it would be money well to get him to make a visit and report on Htock matters generally in New Aoaliind, and organic the Department. —I am, etc., AGRICOLA.
