THE NATIONAL FIRE INSURANCE COMPANY.
(SI-EC-tAT, TO "the press.") DUNEDIN, November 16. At the thirty-second annual meeting of the National Fire Insurance Society to-day, the chairman said business had not been quite so good as in the previous year by nearly £10,000. Nevertheless, the company could pay the usual dividend and carry £10,000 to the credit of the reserve fund. Tlie shortage this year was accounted for by a reduction oi about £5700 in the total premiums taken; secondly, there had been about £6000 of additional losses, while about £1000 additional interest had been collected from the company's investments. The reduction in premiums was the result of the competition with the State Firo Insurance Department. He did not think the company need view with serious alarm the operations of the State Fire Insurance Department. If there was any profit to be made out of tho business the National would get its share.
