FATAL TRAMWAY ACCIDENT
A CONDUCTOR KILLED. A sad tramway accident took place lost evening on the Sumner line, res suiting in the instantaneous death of Thomas George Marsh, a conductor in the employ of the Tramway Board. The facts regarding the occurrence seem to be as follows:—Just before half-past five the tram from Sumner to Christchurch was approaching Woolston. The tram consisted of a eteam engine and two cars. Marsh was crossing from the front to the back oar whilst tho tram was in motion, when, through slipping or tripping, he fell between the cars. The back oar ran over him, and his skull and spine were fractured, and his body badly bnfised. Death was instantaneous. Alfred Edward Forsey, a traveller on the tram, witnessed the accident and rang the bell, but the fatality was, of course, accomplished before tho tram could be pulled up. Dr. Davenport examined the body, which was removed to the Morgue. The tram was running at eight miles an hour at the time of the accident. Marsh, was 26 years of age, end was married. Hβ had only been four months in the service of the Tramway Board.
