Tho Premier stated that tho State fully intends to discharge its obligations in deporting Kanakas when their terms have expired. AN INCREASING POPULATION. SYDNEY, May 24. The population o£ New South Wales at the end of last year was 1,401,533, an increase of 29,809 on tho previous year. The birth rate increased, and tho death rato was tho lowest on record. THE FISH CASES. (Received May 25th, 1.7 a.m.) MELBOURNE, May 24. The jury's verdict in tho fish cases was in favour of tlie Customs. The Judge delivers judgment to-morrow. STRUCK OFF THE ROLL. (Received May 24th, 10.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 24. The Full Court have struck the name of T. M. Slattery off the roll of solicitors. Mr Justice Owen said ho understood an appeal against Slattery's. conviction was going to bo made to the High Court, but ho could not see that that would affect tho decision, because there was sufficient undisputed evidence outside that whereon it was proposed to appeal, to show that Slattery was not a fit and proper person to remain as a solicitor of the Court. THE PLAGUE. SYDNEY, May 24. Another plague patient is dead. THE SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP. Tho sculling match, Stanbury versus Towns, for tho World's Championship and £500 a side, has been arranged to be rowed on the N Parramatta river on July 22nd.
