At the Australasian merchants' banquet, hold at the Trocadero to-day, there were 140 guests, including exGovernors and Agents-General, and many leading merchants. Lord Jersey {•resided. Lord Tennyson, in proposing the chairman's health, said the eager nature of the Commonwealth had led her into mistakes. He was fully convinced Australia would fulfil her high destiny, and that her common-sensa and patriotism would guide her over all dangers.
