The Winter Meeting of the Plumpton Park Trovting Club waa commenced yeswroay, in cold and bleak weatner. Thia aoubtxees attected the attendance, which was only moderate, and the raoing not particularly interesting. Considering tne dead state ol the track, the pertorina—ce of Imperialism in winning the nrst heat of the Champion _and!-' cap in _uu Sigsec waa a meritorious one, while Austerlitz also ran a great race in the Empire Handicap, in which he cut out the two miles in 4min 65sec. Racing will be continued on Saturday, when the second heat of the Champion Handicap will be decided. Speculation waa fairly brisk, the sum of £aOO3 10s being passed through the machines, as against £2169 10s on the corresponding day last year.
