THE CHILDREN'S FANCY FAIR.
This afternoon Lady Plunket will open the Fancy Fair, which is being held on behalf of the Children's Aid Society, in the Canterbury Hall, for the purpose of obtaining funds to pay off the debt on tho new cottage home recently opened in Grafton street by Lady Plunket. The ' Fair will last for three days, and we sincerely trust that it will be v,ery generously patronised by t\e public. Tho Children's Aid Society is in every way worthy of practical sympathy and support. Started some years ago by Sister Frances Torlesse, whose many good works need no words of praise from us, the Society has for its object to succour the poor and destitute children—the little waifs and strays, into whose lives so little of joy and comfort can enter, and who, on account of their very destitution, are likely to be led into crime if no helping hand is stretched out to save them. For several years the Society has modestly prosecuted its good work on strictly undenominational lines, and once established in a permanent home of its own, its usefulness should be materially extended. The ladies engaged in getting up the Fancy Fair have worked most zealously in its behalf. The stalls, we are assured, have been most generously stocked,
and stall assistants, it is said, will require every moment of the time at their disposal if they are to sell all their numerous and attractive wares. We are satisfied that in these circumstances, and in view of the excellent cause which will be assisted, there is no need for us to urge the public to go to the Canterbury Hall to-day, to-morrow, and Saturday. The publio heart is in the right place, and the little ones will not be allowed to suffer for the want of well-timed generosity on the part of the more fortunate members of the community.
